Sarah Watts work up for grabs

For all those people that missed out on purchasing a Sarah Watt original, there is still hope. Such that she was, Sarah had donated two beautiful hand painted photographs to Big West as part of a fundraiser for this years Festival. But Shhhh . . .  it is a silent auction and the auction finishes on the 27th. The works are on display at the fabulous Substation in Newport until the 27th of November - so if you want to check it out I suggest you get a move on. Apologies for the badly cropped photos of Sarah's work - but hopefully they give you a little taste for what is in store. There is nothing like seeing it in the flesh! So dust of your wallets and head on down to the Substation. Sarah has shown us once again her generosity, so I am sure someone out there can match it. Happy bidding - it's all for a good cause!!

Sarah Watt Calendars available Online

Sarah Watts calendars 3012/2012 is finally available from our online shop . . . it only took me a week to get them up on the site!! This beautiful full colour, 14-page calendar is printed on quality paper and draws on some of the images in Sarah Watts current exhibition 3012. Sarah’s rendered photography illustrates the industrial and suburban beauty of her hometown in West Footscray. For those who have patiently waited for the new run of calendars to arrive they are finally in store! Thank you to everyone for your patience. You can purchase online or swing by to pick them up.

Sarah Watt Opening

Thank you for all that made Sunday’s opening of Sarah Watts rendered photography so special. I think I am safe to say Sarah’s work touched a chord with everybody who came. In true Sarah Style she has made the ordinary extraordinary! The show is a real celebration of our local neighborhood and all we hold dear. Exhibition runs till November 13. 3012 – 2012 Exhibition by Sarah Watt

We are excited to present 3012 – 2012 a local story in images by Sarah Watt. If Sarah Watt wasn’t so god-damn-nice, she would definitely be one of those over achieving creatives that we would all secretly love to hate! In 2005 she scooped an AFI for best writer and director with Look Both Ways as well as winning major international awards, including Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. In 2009 she wrote and directed My Year Without Sex. Her work is represented in the permanent collection at MOMA, New York. She wrote and illustrated the children’s picture book, Clem Always Could (Lothian press). AND this week she is launching her co written memoir (with William McInnes) 'Worse things happen at Sea' (Hachette), photographically illustrated by, of course, Sarah. She has obviously been very very busy and we are honoured that Sarah has squeezed in some time to do something with us! Exhibition Dates 24th October till 13th November Gallery Hours Tues–Saturday 10am to 5.30pm, Sundays 12 to 5pm         3012 - 2012 draws an emotional connectedness to the suburban landscape through rendered photography as Sarah Watt explores her relationship with the local neighborhood in West Footscray. The exhibition is also the official launch of Sarah Watts’ Calendar 3012 - 2012. Produced by Leanne Evans, this uniquely local calendar depicts images from the exhibition.

Between Earth and Sky

EXHIBITION 26 August - 5 September 2010 Between Earth and Sky is an exhibition put together by three artist; Sarah Watt, Jos Van Hulsen and Jacqueline Flintcroft. As well as sharing a creative vision and a wine or two on the weekends, the three artists reside in the same suburban street in West Footscray. What makes this exhibition unique is that all three have interpreted this theme from a very intuitive place and all take their audiences between the cracks of reality to a profound place of feeling. In this exhibition Jos Van Hulsen is concerned with that something in between. The moment of metamorphous and birth of something new. Flight is explored through moths, aeroplanes and ethereal winged creatures that deliver the audience to a moment of transcendence. Van Hulsens work is very organic and fluid. Spiritual themes are explored through found materials including, bones, leaves and suburban refuge, that are worked in to pieces that somehow bring together the masculine and feminine into perfect harmony. Sarah Watt, Better known for her award winning film, Look Both Ways and more recently My Year without Sex, has once again managed to transcribe her suburban landscapes with something deep and spiritual. Watt’s work successfully manages to capture that moment we all have when we glimpse that shadow in the corner of our eye. Dr Who fans would relate to the analogy that Watt has somehow found that crack in the universe and allows us to see two worlds momentarily collide. An avid pilot and flight enthusiast, Jaqueline Flintcroft allows her viewers a glimpse of her world in the air. Aerial landscapes are meticulously rendered through three-dimensional boxes placed together like a jigsaw. The effect is a beautiful rendering of the landscape through abstract objects. The use of colours and subtle tones conjure a deep connection with the Australian landscape. For art enthusiasts who are content just to feel and experience I suggest this is a show for you. None of the artists here are concerned with intellectual or moral rhetoric; all are just content for audiences to view the work from a personal place. Between Earth and Sky runs from the 27th of August to the 5th of September at Brightspace Gallery, 8 Martin St, St Kilda. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Sat 12 – 6pm and Sunday 1-5pm.
